Description
The M Check ensures your bike is safe to ride. It is an 8 point full visual bike check and follows the frame of the bike from the rear wheel up to the saddle, down to the pedals, up to the handlebars and down to the front wheel. Specific attention will be made to the following:
Front Wheel:
· If you have a quick release I’ll make sure it is firmly locked, shaking the front wheel to ensure it is not working loose.
· I’ll test the tyre pressure with my fingers or palm to check the correct pressure
· I’ll check around the perimeter of the tyre for cracks, bulges, foreign objects and general wear.
· I’ll check the spokes individually to ensure none have worked loose.
· I’ll check the wear of the brake pads and ensure they are not binding as the wheel turns.
· I’ll test that the brake works properly by moving the bike backwards and forwards whilst pulling on the brake.
Handlebars:
· I’ll Check the stem is correctly positioned, then go to the front of the bike, squeezing the front wheel between my knees and gently rock the handlebars to ensure there is no play in them
Pedals & Crank:
· I’ll Rotate them to ensure they spin freely. I’ll gently hold each one and rock to and from the frame to check there is no sign of wear in either pedal or the crank.
Chain:
· I’ll check to see if it is well oiled, with no visible rust and that the links are not damaged or out of place
Seat Post:
· I’ll hold the saddle firmly and rock it to ensure there is no play and that it won’t work loose.
Rear Wheel
· I’ll Carry out the same checks as on the front wheel.
Lights & Reflectors
· I’ll Check the bike has them and work
Bell:
· I’ll verify it works correctly.
At the end of the M Check I will advise if there is any additional work that is needed / recommended to be carried out on your bike or what service is best for you.
